The BHK Mono 600 Power Amplifier is a single-channel hybrid made by PS Audio in Colorado, and it was designed by Bascom H. King before his death as the summation of his lifetime of amplifier work. It was launched in September 2022 as the last amplifier King developed with the company, and PS Audio ended new production of it in 2025.
Key specs that matter
At 1% THD the amplifier delivers 600 W into 8 ohm, and it is stable into 2 ohm. Gain is selectable between 26.0 dB and 30.5 dB, and sensitivity for full output into 8 ohm is 3.5 V or 2.1 V accordingly. Distortion is below 0.002% at 1 kHz and 1 W into 8 ohm, and below 0.01% across 20 Hz to 20 kHz at 1 W. Frequency response is 10 Hz to 20 kHz within 0.1 dB and 10 Hz to 100 kHz at +0.1/-3.0 dB. Output impedance is under 70 milliohm from 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and noise below -100 dBV. Input impedance is 100 kohm on RCA and 200 kohm on XLR. The chassis measures 43.4 x 28.4 x 35.6 cm, 44.5 cm deep with connectors and handles, and weighs 49 kg.
Engineering and use context
A matched pair of Gold Lion tubes forms the input stage, which the maker calls a zero-loss design. These input tubes are powered through vacuum tube rectifiers used instead of solid-state diodes to reduce switching noise, and a separate 1.6 kVA transformer serves the output stage. A microprocessor continuously monitors power supply performance, bias levels and other parameters as part of extensive protection circuitry. Multiple MOSFETs of the N-channel type form the output, without complementary partners, and the signal stays balanced all the way through. Construction is through-hole, with heavy 2 gauge braided copper pathways and gold-plated solid copper bus bars. Consumption is 75 W in ready mode, 225 W at idle, 950 W at rated power into 8 ohm and 1,500 W into 4 ohm. Units were set at the factory for 100, 120 or 230 V mains, and several internal and rear-panel fuses protect the circuit. Coverage lasts three years for the electronics and one year for the tubes. Shipped, each unit weighs 55 kg in a 61 x 43 x 61 cm carton.
Pairing
Two units make a stereo pair. Each has RCA and XLR inputs, a doubled set of gold-plated copper speaker terminals for bi-wiring, and a 12 V trigger on 3.5 mm with pass-through, so one trigger lead from a preamplifier can be chained through both monoblocks. The selectable gain helps match a preamplifier with a high output level.
