The B-100 CENTENNIAL is a mono power amplifier from Luxman of Japan, built for the CENTENNIAL series that celebrates the company's hundredth year. Each chassis drives a single loudspeaker with its own amplifier and power supply. The Japanese launch was set for June 2026, European deliveries followed in September 2026, and the European price is EUR 52,990 per pair.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 125 W into 8 ohm and 250 W into 4 ohm, and Luxman states up to 1,000 W into 1 ohm for short periods. The first 25 W into 8 ohm are delivered in class A, after which the stage moves into class AB. Input sensitivity is 1.12 V for full output, gain is 29 dB, and input impedance is 51 kOhm on the RCA socket and 55 kOhm on the XLR socket. Response runs from 20 Hz to 20 kHz within +0 and -0.1 dB and from 1 Hz to 180 kHz within 3 dB. Distortion is 0.0014 % at 1 kHz into 8 ohm and no more than 0.04 % across the audio band, and the signal to noise figure is 119 dB with IHF-A weighting. Damping factor reaches 1,000 at 1 kHz and 2,300 at 50 Hz. Each unit measures 440 x 243 x 651 mm, weighs 61.5 kg and consumes 180 W in normal use, 440 W at maximum and 1.0 W in standby.
Engineering and use context
Its circuit is based on LIFES 1.1, Luxman's circuit architecture that ties the linearity of the gain stages to the control of the supply, and on the Class D.U.C.C. amplification scheme meant to keep distortion low at high levels. The output section uses a new 4 x 4 layout - four modules, each containing four parallel three-stage Darlington push-pull paths. Power comes from a custom 1,250 VA EI-core transformer with flat copper windings feeding sixteen 10,000 uF capacitors, 160,000 uF in total, within a three-stage supply that also includes a stabilised high-voltage rail and two low-noise control rails. The front plate is 15 mm thick with bevelled sides, the top cover is 5 mm aluminium, and a large analogue meter lit by white LEDs sits in the fascia. Luxman supplies its JPA-17000 mains cable with each unit.
Pairing
The high input impedance and standard sensitivity mean the amplifier works with any preamplifier that has RCA or XLR outputs, including tube designs with a higher output impedance. The low output impedance and current reserve into very low loads suit loudspeakers with low impedance dips and heavy woofers. Two groups of binding posts on each unit allow bi-wiring and accept bare wire, banana plugs and spades, and trigger input and output sockets let the amplifiers switch on together with the preamplifier.
Alternatives
Luxman offers no other mono power amplifier alongside the B-100 CENTENNIAL.
