The Gryphon 40 is a limited-edition integrated amplifier that Gryphon Audio announced on 6 November 2025 to mark the Danish company's 40th anniversary, with orders closing on 31 December 2025. It was priced at EUR 23,800, GBP 27,995 or AUD 39,995. The circuitry is based on the Diablo 333 integrated amplifier, while the casework was redesigned in the style of the original designs by founder Flemming E. Rasmussen.
Key specs that matter
Output is given as 150 W into 8 ohms, 300 W into 4 ohms and 600 W into 2 ohms in pure Class A. Inputs are given as four RCA and two XLR, while the Diablo 333 on which it is based has two XLR and two RCA inputs, so the exact input count is not confirmed. Two optional modules can be fitted - the PS-3 phono board, which accepts both MM and MC cartridges, and the DAC-3 digital board. Each amplifier comes with a leather-bound manual, a signed anniversary letter and a hand-signed sketch. Gryphon has not published official dimensions or weight.
Engineering and use context
As an anniversary edition, the Gryphon 40 combines the proven circuit of the Diablo 333 with a new chassis that looks back to the early products of the company, founded by Flemming E. Rasmussen in 1985. The module slots let the owner add a phono stage or a DAC, so the amplifier can become the centre of a system with a turntable and digital sources. In the Diablo 333, the DAC-3 module uses an ESS ES9039PRO chip. Output doubles each time the impedance halves, a sign of a power supply able to deliver high current into difficult loads. The number of units was limited by the ordering window rather than by a published production count. The extras in the box, from the leather-bound manual to the signed letter and sketch, mark each unit as part of the anniversary series.
Pairing
With this power reserve, the Gryphon 40 can drive demanding low-impedance loudspeakers, including large floorstanders. With the PS-3 fitted, a turntable connects straight to the amplifier, and the DAC-3 module adds digital inputs for streamers and CD transports. The Class A design runs hot, so the amplifier needs free space around it.
Alternatives
The Gryphon Diablo 333 is the regular integrated amplifier on which the anniversary model is based, rated at 333 W into 8 ohms and weighing 50.6 kg.
