The RI-101 MK.II is an integrated amplifier in the Reference Series from Vitus Audio of Denmark. It operates in Class A for its first watts and then moves into Class AB, and it can be ordered with an optional digital board that adds streaming and digital inputs. The European list price is EUR 19,800, and the digital module costs extra. A US price of USD 20,000 has been quoted, with USD 5,000 more for the streaming and DAC option. The Mk.II designation marks a revision of the earlier RI-101.

Key specs that matter

Output is about 300 W per channel into 8 ohm and about 600 W into 4 ohm in Class AB, with roughly 8 W and 16 W respectively available in Class A. Bandwidth extends beyond 800 kHz. Noise sits more than 100 dB below the signal at 1 kHz, and THD plus noise is 0.04% at 100 W and 1 kHz. Analog connections number five, three on XLR and two on RCA, all with 2 V sensitivity and 16 kOhm impedance. Output impedance at the speaker terminals is 0.075 ohm, and 33 ohm at the line output. The case is 435 mm wide, 182 mm tall with feet and 470 mm deep with connectors, and it weighs 38 kg without the digital module.

Engineering and use context

Level adjustment uses a relay controlled resistor network with a range from -80 dB to +8 dB in 1 dB steps, so the audio signal passes through fixed resistors rather than a potentiometer. One pair of balanced speaker terminals is fitted, and a single XLR output can be switched between pre out and tape out duty. The optional board provides an Ethernet streaming input, an S/PDIF input on RCA and an AES input on XLR, with support up to 32 bit and 384 kHz as well as MQA, while DSD128 is converted to PCM. A USB DAC version of the module is also listed. Power consumption is under 1 W in standby, 90 W idling without load, and 120 W idling when either digital option is installed.

Pairing

Through the pre out setting, an extra power amplifier or two powered subwoofers can follow the amplifier's own level setting. The input sensitivity matches the standard output level of most modern DACs and streamers. Without the digital board, a standalone DAC or streamer connects through the balanced analog inputs. The high output into low impedance means low impedance or demanding loudspeakers fall within its range, and owners who add the module can connect a network source directly.

Alternatives

The Vitus Audio SIA-030 from the Signature Series is a larger integrated amplifier rated at 30 W per channel entirely in Class A.
