The M-Amp Solo is a Class AB integrated with an onboard DAC and moving-magnet phono stage from Micromega, the French electronics brand. It takes its inspiration from the Solo Plexi CD players of the 1990s and the M-One integrated of 2016, and it is designed in Paris, has its circuit boards produced in Verquin by Eiffage Electronique and is assembled at La Manufacture du Son in Hossegor. The list price is EUR 3,000, with availability from January 2026.

Key specs that matter

Output is 2 x 85 W into 8 ohm and 2 x 105 W into 4 ohm, fed by a linear supply using a toroidal transformer. Harmonic distortion is 0.003% at 1 kHz into 8 ohm and below 0.002% at 63 Hz into 8 ohm. Digital conversion uses an ESS ES9280AQ PRO chip. Signal-to-noise ratio is 117 dB on the digital inputs, 93 dB on the RCA line input and above 73 dB on the phono input. The chassis has a square 35 x 35 cm footprint, stands 14 cm high and weighs 11 kg.

Engineering and use context

Inputs cover one RCA line input, the MM phono input at 47 kohm, and optical, coaxial and asynchronous USB-B digital inputs. On the output side the amplifier offers a pre-out on RCA, a front-panel headphone jack and a subwoofer output with a 320 Hz crossover point. Heat is handled by large machined heatsinks. The standard version has a clear plexiglass top cover in the manner of the older Solo players, and a version with a solid aluminium top is also made. Streaming is not built in but modular - the optional Escape M1 R or M1 AIR external module adds network playback and makes the system Roon Ready, with AirPlay 2, Chromecast and Bluetooth support, so the streaming section can be upgraded independently of the amplifier. The remote control fixes to the case with a magnetic attachment, and firmware updates are loaded through a USB-A port. Micromega gives a two-year warranty.

Pairing

The output suits most passive speakers of ordinary sensitivity. The MM phono input takes a moving-magnet cartridge directly, while a low-output moving-coil cartridge will need an external step-up device or phono stage feeding the line input. The subwoofer output adds an active sub, and the pre-out lets an owner bring in an outboard power amp at a later stage.

Alternatives

The Micromega M-150 from the M-One series is a larger Class AB integrated rated at 150 W into 8 ohm and 300 W into 4 ohm, with MM and MC phono, XLR and I2S inputs and a streaming DAC.
