The Lab A Four N200 is a network integrated amplifier from Orpheus Lab, a Swiss brand whose electronics come from the Mectronic Sarl company. It was unveiled at High End Vienna 2026, held on 4 to 7 June, with release scheduled for autumn 2026 at about GBP 23,900. The model takes the existing A Four I200 integrated amplifier platform and adds streaming and digital functions while keeping a dual-mono amplifier design.

Key specs that matter

Orpheus Lab rates the N200 at 200 W per channel into 8 ohms. Power comes from twin 880 VA toroidal transformers, one per channel. The digital inputs cover Ethernet, USB, AES/EBU, S/PDIF coaxial and optical connections. For network playback the amplifier works with Roon and UPnP and receives streams from Tidal Connect, Qobuz Connect and Spotify Connect. Conversion is handled by an ESS9028PRO DAC chip.

Engineering and use context

Its converter stage relies on a proprietary FPGA-controlled architecture derived from the brand's Absolute Line CD player range, so the digital stage shares its control approach with those disc players. The A Four I200 platform underneath is a Class AB design using six hand-matched high-power MOSFETs per channel, with a quoted instantaneous peak of up to 850 W for less than 200 ms. On that platform, THD+N is given as 0.004% at full rated power into 8 ohms, the damping factor exceeds 3000 and the -3 dB bandwidth runs from 0.7 Hz to 85 kHz. The analogue side of that platform offers six inputs in XLR or RCA form with High, Med and Low input level selection, a headphone output for loads from 32 to 600 ohm and a quoted output impedance of 0.0 ohm, while dynamic range through the balanced input exceeds 114 dB. Volume is controlled by a PGA2320 integrated circuit, and the unit mutes automatically if the AC supply drops. The I200 chassis measures 440 mm wide, 420 mm deep and 179 mm high and weighs 36 kg, with maximum consumption of 950 W, which indicates the size of the platform the network version builds on.

Pairing

Balanced XLR preamp outputs allow a subwoofer to be connected, and a home cinema bypass mode lets the amplifier act as the stereo power stage for an AV processor. With streaming, the DAC and amplification in one box, the only other component needed for a complete system is a pair of passive loudspeakers, plus a network connection or a digital source such as a transport. The high current capability of the dual-transformer design suits speakers with demanding impedance curves.

Alternatives

The Orpheus Lab A Four I200 is the analogue integrated amplifier in the same Absolute line, offering the same amplifier platform without the network and DAC section.
