The Óde is a tube integrated from the French maker Jadis Electronics, built by hand in France with point-to-point wiring. It works in pure Class A throughout and sits above the Aria in price, listed at USD 10,900, or CAD 13,900, in North America. Like every Jadis amplifier, it relies on output transformers that the company designs, winds and builds by hand in its own workshop.

Key specs that matter

Rated output is 25 W per channel in Class A. A quartet of KT120 output tubes delivers that power, and the design is also configurable with EL34 or KT88 valves. One ECC82 and two ECC83 double triodes form the input and driver stages. The rear panel holds five RCA line inputs, rated for a sensitivity of 250 to 300 mV and input impedance above 100 kohm. The quoted bandwidth runs from 5 Hz to 60 kHz at -3 dB. The output stage copes with loudspeaker loads from 1 to 16 ohm and leaves the factory set for 4 to 8 ohm. The case measures 44 x 40.5 x 21.5 cm and weighs about 25 kg, and power consumption is 300 VA. Buyers choose between gold and silver finishes. Unlike the Aria, which is set semi-automatically, the Óde has a fully automatic bias circuit.

Engineering and use context

In pure Class A the four output valves stay conducting across the full signal cycle, which explains a steady power draw and a hot chassis for its modest rating. Bias is adjusted automatically, so fitting a fresh set of output tubes, or switching between the supported valve types, does not call for a meter and manual trimming. Point-to-point wiring replaces a printed circuit board in the signal path. A remote handset controls volume. The Óde contains no DAC, streaming board, HDMI ARC input or phono stage - it is a line-level amplifier only, so a turntable needs a separate phono preamplifier and digital sources need their own converter. Heavy and fitted with valves that run hot, it belongs on a solid, open shelf with space above it.

Pairing

The high input impedance makes the Óde an easy load for valve sources, outboard phono stages and DACs with modest output stages. Because the output transformer taps cover such a wide impedance range, the amplifier can be adapted to the actual impedance of the chosen speakers, though the limited Class A power still points toward efficient designs rather than power-hungry ones.

Alternatives

The Jadis Aria is the more affordable integrated from the brand, rated at 30 W per channel in Class B with EL34 output tubes as standard.
