The IN800 Evolution is an integrated amplifier from the French company Atoll Electronique, launched at High End Vienna 2026. It brings the circuits of the AM400 Evolution monoblocks and the PR400 Evolution preamplifier together in one chassis, and it doubles the amplification stages of the IN400 Evolution. Pricing starts at EUR 12,000 without the optional DAC and phono cards, and deliveries are expected by the end of 2026.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 2 x 350 W into 8 ohm and 2 x 550 W into 4 ohm. Distortion is 0.05% at 1 kHz, signal-to-noise ratio is 100 dB, and bandwidth runs from 5 Hz to 100 kHz with a rise time of 2 microseconds. The line section offers two XLR inputs and three RCA inputs plus a tape loop. The unit measures 443 x 440 x 147 mm and weighs 27 kg. With the tape loop, a recorder or external processor can also be inserted in the signal path.
Engineering and use context
In its delivered form the circuit is entirely analogue, with the two channels built as independent dual-mono halves. The main supply is an oversized 1,200 VA toroidal transformer, wound separately for each channel, mechanically decoupled from the chassis. Three further transformers independently feed the control logic, the digital section and the analogue control circuitry, which keeps switching noise from the logic and display out of the audio path. Doubling the output stages relative to the IN400 Evolution is what lifts the power to the figures above. Energy storage totals 128,000 microfarads, and shielded MKP capacitors handle coupling. Each channel uses 16 matched MOSFET output transistors, driven by Darlington transistor stages. Volume is set by a dual-channel MUSES attenuator switched by relays, giving channel-matched steps. Controls are machined aluminium knobs for volume and settings beside a high-resolution TFT display of 480 x 1270 pixels. The chassis is 2 mm steel with a 12 mm micro-blasted aluminium front panel.
Pairing
A home cinema bypass can be assigned to one RCA and one XLR input, which lets a multichannel processor use the amplifier for its left and right speakers at fixed gain. XLR and RCA preamp outputs allow bi-amping with a second power amplifier or connection of a subwoofer. Two option slots accept the DA800 DAC card and the P800 or P820 phono modules, letting a digital source or a turntable connect without extra boxes.
Alternatives
The Atoll IN400 Evolution sits below it in the same Evolution integrated line, with an output of 2 x 160 W.
