The IDA-8 is a discontinued Class A+D integrated amplifier with a DAC and wireless port made by NuPrime Audio. It places the preamplifier, converter and power stage in one small case to keep signal paths short, and it came in black or silver anodized aluminium with a remote control included.
Key specs that matter
Output is 100 W per channel into 8 ohm and the same into 4 ohm, with 280 W peak. The USB input decodes PCM up to 384 kHz and DSD up to DSD256, while coaxial and optical each take PCM to 192 kHz and DoP DSD64. There is one analogue RCA input, which is digitized, plus a port for an optional Bluetooth or WiFi receiver. THD+N is 0.005 percent, SNR is 95 dB and frequency response runs from 10 Hz to 50 kHz. Bit resolution spans 16 to 32 bit.
Engineering and use context
The Ultra-Linear Class A Module (ULCAM) uses discrete parts, and NuPrime quotes THD+N below 0.0015 percent and 130 dB signal-to-noise for this preamplifier stage. Ultra-low-noise JFETs sit at the input. Its Class-D power section switches at 600 kHz, driven by self-oscillating PWM, and NuPrime states system efficiency of up to 93 percent. A NuPrime SRC chip, designed together with a chip maker, raises input signals to a rate in the megahertz range and then brings them down to the target sampling rate for low jitter. Volume uses an FPGA-driven thin-film switched-resistor ladder that leaves one resistor in circuit at each volume step, adjustable in 99 steps of 0.5 dB with a separate level for each input. The linear power supply has a toroidal transformer, and the case sits on NuPrime isolation feet. Native DSD playback works by ASIO 2.1 and DoP, USB runs in asynchronous mode, and NuPrime provides its own Windows driver. Standby power consumption is very low. The chassis measures 55 x 235 x 281 mm and weighs 4 kg, and is covered for one year. Only units with serial numbers 4001001 to 4001200 have a 6 V line output. The Bluetooth link runs at 48 kHz.
Pairing
A volume-controlled full-range RCA line output of 2 V can serve as a subwoofer feed, though the speaker terminals should not be wired straight to a subwoofer input. The extension port works with the NuPrime BTR-HD aptX HD receiver or the LP10 NuPrime Edition for Google Cast and AirPlay, and the Bluetooth dongle stopped being bundled from 1 January 2021.
Alternatives
The NuPrime IA-9X is an analogue integrated model that adds a moving-magnet phono input, an XLR input and switchable ODC and Harmonic Generation circuits.
