Eon Art builds the Hadron hybrid integrated amplifier as a monophonic design in which every channel is split across three separate blocks. According to the maker, work on the original Hadron prototype began in 2010, and the later Boson monoblocks and the stereo Quark and Squark integrated amplifiers were derived from it. Eon Art places the Hadron at the top of its range.

Key specs that matter

Each channel delivers 400 W into 8 ohm and 700 W into 4 ohm. Inputs comprise one balanced connection and three single-ended ones. Frequency response is quoted from 0 Hz to 35,000 Hz within 3 dB, signal-to-noise ratio is 96.751 dB, total harmonic distortion plus noise does not exceed 0.1518 percent, while Eon Art lists a damping factor of 4000. Every block measures 435 x 435 x 320 mm, and the three blocks of one channel together weigh 113.22 kg, so a stereo system consists of six enclosures.

Engineering and use context

The output section runs in a hybrid class A plus D arrangement, while valves appear in two other places - a Philips SQ E8CC in the preamplifier stage and a JJ Tesla 5AR4 rectifier in the power supply. The three cabinets for each channel are a dedicated AC filtering and DC converter unit, a power supply unit and the amplifier unit itself. Eon Art explains that dividing the electronics this way lowers the noise floor and leaves more room for better parts. The filtering stage uses dedicated transformer filter circuits, a medical grade IEC60601-1 filter for the auxiliary supplies, toroidal isolation transformers for the preamplifier section and a combination of chokes and RC networks. The enclosures were designed by Oracle Audio, a supporting structure comes from Solid Meuble, and the internal fittings include German sliding mechanics, a plate of Labradorite stone and Soundcare feet, and computer-assisted design was used throughout development. The company develops its circuits with audio analyzers, programmable AC power supplies, oscilloscopes, spectrum analyzers and circuit simulation software.

Because its power rises as the load drops, the Hadron suits loudspeakers whose impedance falls to low values. The balanced input suits a source with XLR outputs, while three single-ended inputs cover further RCA components.
