The EOS is a valve integrated amplifier with a push-pull output stage built by Trafomatic Audio in Serbia. It combines a main chassis with an outboard power supply box and has a headphone amplifier, so no external preamplifier is required. European pricing was 8,500 EUR, with 9,000 USD for US buyers.
Key specs that matter
Four KT120 output valves from Tung-Sol deliver 100 W per channel, and Trafomatic states that the first 10 W of each channel is produced in class A. Short bursts can reach 500 W. The driver section uses two ECC99 and two 5687 valves. The input panel provides a single XLR input pair plus three RCA input pairs, while a further RCA preamp output can feed one or two subwoofers. Speaker terminals offer 4 and 8 ohm taps. The 6.35 mm headphone socket is intended for headphones of 25 to 150 ohm and delivers 3 W into 50 ohm. Trafomatic lists a bandwidth of 10 Hz to 100 kHz, 82 dB S/N and distortion of 0.03 percent, with an input sensitivity of 600 mV and an input impedance of 100 kohm. The main unit measures 450 x 350 x 230 mm.
Engineering and use context
The outboard supply is built around an 800 VA toroidal transformer, and its C-L-C filtering is split into separate sections for each channel. Output transformers use Double-C cores, fast Solen capacitors appear across the circuit, and all wiring is done by hand from point to point. Negative feedback is limited to 6 dB and applied as cathode feedback. Bias is set manually for each output valve with the supplied screwdriver, reading 50 mA per valve on a front ampere meter whose round dial also forms the O in the EOS logo. That manual adjustment allows KT150 valves to be fitted in place of the KT120. Volume runs on a motorised potentiometer with remote control, and an acrylic front panel shields the valves while leaving them visible, since there is no cage. A white paint finish is offered, and the transformer housings on top have rounded covers that match the curved lines of the chassis. The separate supply box weighs 11 kg.
Pairing
Trafomatic describes the output as sufficient for most speakers, including models with below-average sensitivity, and the two output taps cover both common speaker impedances. The preamp output makes a powered subwoofer an easy addition.
Alternatives
Trafomatic also builds the Elegance Evolution, a lower-powered integrated model using four 6550 valves for 50 W per channel.
