The AD-66DPRO is an entry-level integrated amplifier from Tone Winner, the Guangzhou audio manufacturer. It is the upgraded version of the AD-66D, adding an MM/MC phono input, Bluetooth 5.0 and a new mobile app to a 2.1-channel amplifier that combines a Class A biased output stage with a DAC and several digital inputs.
Key specs that matter
Output is 100 W per channel into 8 ohms and 170 W into 4 ohms. Voltage gain is 39 dB or more, frequency response runs from 20 Hz to 100 kHz, signal-to-noise is 95 dB or better (A-weighted) and THD is 0.025% or lower. Input impedance is 20 kohm. Analogue inputs are one balanced and three single-ended, plus MM/MC phono. The chassis measures 444 x 106 x 436 mm and weighs 11 kg.
Engineering and use context
The output stage of the AD-66D family uses two pairs of Toshiba TTA1943 and TTC5200 power transistors per channel, biased to give extended Class A operation at low levels before moving into Class AB. That arrangement avoids crossover distortion at normal listening levels while keeping heat lower than a full Class A design. The input stage uses a single-ended input with a differential output to raise voltage gain with low noise. Volume and tone are handled by a New Japan Radio NJW1194 electronic controller with 0.5 dB steps. The power supply combines a custom toroidal transformer with ELNA and custom electrolytic capacitors of up to 15,000 uF. On the earlier AD-66D, the DAC is an Analog Devices AD1955, and digital inputs include USB, optical, coaxial and HDMI ARC, plus a micro SD slot and a USB port for local playback. A subwoofer output makes the amplifier a 2.1 system, and the speaker outputs are protected by a dedicated circuit. The Bluetooth 5.0 receiver adds wireless playback from phones and tablets, and the Tone Winner app controls source selection and volume. The phono input added in the PRO version makes the unit a complete front end for a record player, a television and streamed music in one chassis.
Pairing
The AD-66DPRO suits bookshelf and moderate floorstanding speakers in rooms of up to about 25 m2. The MM/MC input accepts a record player without an outboard stage, and the subwoofer output completes a 2.1 system for film and music. Bluetooth and the app let phones and tablets play through it with no extra streaming box in the rack.
Alternatives
Tone Winner's AD-2PRO+ is the larger integrated amplifier with switchable Class A operation.
