Lindemann audiotechnik, based in Krailling, Germany, makes the 885 stereo integrated power amplifier, which belongs to the company's 800 Series of electronics. Lindemann describes it as built in Germany in limited quantities. It is a purely analogue design - the rear panel carries only line inputs, one preamplifier output, speaker terminals, a SYSCOM control socket and a USB port kept for maintenance.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 140 W per channel into 8 ohm and 260 W per channel into 4 ohm, and the amplifier accepts speaker loads down to 2 ohm. Source connections comprise three single-ended RCA sockets and two balanced XLR sockets. Input sensitivity is 500 mV balanced for 200 W into 4 ohm, input impedance 20 kohm balanced, voltage gain 35 dB and maximum input 6.0 V balanced. Frequency response reaches from 1 Hz to 200 kHz at -3 dB, THD stays below 0.01%, and the noise floor sits more than 106 dB A-weighted below 200 W into 4 ohm. Crosstalk between channels exceeds 100 dB at 1 kHz and between inputs 90 dB. The case measures 440 x 135 x 360 mm including feet and weighs 20.0 kg. Idle consumption is 75 W, full-power draw reaches 1,000 W and standby needs 1.0 W.
Engineering and use context
Inside, the 885 is two separate amplifiers sharing one enclosure, with the power socket as the only link between the channels, and each side has its own 500 W transformer. The fully balanced circuit uses current feedback and applies the single ended push-pull principle, an idea taken from valve amplifiers, in a transistor design with special transistors from Japan. Because both terminals of each channel are driven, the black speaker post must never be connected to ground. Volume moves over 100 dB in 1 dB steps, balance can be shifted by up to 5 dB in 0.5 dB increments, and the maximum level can be capped by up to 20 dB. Active cooling comes from a fan whose speed follows ambient temperature and drive level, and protection circuits cut power on DC at the output, under-voltage or over-temperature, with an inrush limiter acting at switch-on. Inputs can be renamed or disabled in the setup menu.
Pairing
The volume-controlled XLR output is factory-set for power amplifiers with 26 dB gain, so a Lindemann 852 or 855 connected there produces the same speaker voltage as the 885 for bi-amping or a second room. Through SYSCOM the 885 switches Lindemann power amplifiers and CD or SACD players on together with itself, and the link menu lists the D680, 820, 820S, 822 and 825 USBDAC. Lindemann suggests its Kind of Blue interconnects and unscreened power cord.
