The 6000A MkII is the second version of the Audiolab 6000A integrated amplifier, released in April 2025 at GBP 699 in black or silver. Its amplifier topology comes from Audiolab designer Jan Ertner, and its front panel mirrors the first model so that it matches the other 6000, 7000 and 9000 Series components. The update brought a newer DAC chip, a revised post-DAC filter, a stronger supply, mains filtering, a quieter phono stage, a better Bluetooth module and an HDMI ARC input, while keeping the OLED display and metal chassis.
Key specs that matter
Output is 2 x 50 W into 8 ohm and 2 x 75 W into 4 ohm, both at below 1 % THD, and peak current into difficult loads is 11 A. In the power section gain is 29 dB, distortion under 0.003 % at full rated power into 8 ohm, response flat within 0.3 dB over 20 Hz to 20 kHz, and A-weighted noise more than 109 dB below signal. The preamp stage offers 8 dB of line gain and 54 dB for MM phono, with sensitivities of 720 mV and 3.1 mV and input impedances of 10 kohm and 47 kohm with 100 pF. Preamp distortion is under 0.0004 % at 2 V, line signal-to-noise tops 110 dB, phono reaches 79 dB, and the output delivers up to 2.3 V from 120 ohm. Weight is about 7.8 kg.
Engineering and use context
A Class AB power amp with CFB complementary feedback is driven by a 200 VA toroidal transformer and four 15,000 uF reservoir capacitors, 30,000 uF per rail. The ESS Sabre ES9038Q2M chip is a 32-bit part built on HyperStream II with ESS jitter-removal circuitry, and its Class A post-DAC active filter was modelled on the 7000A and 9000A designs. Converter output is 2.05 Vrms at 0 dBFS, distortion below 0.001 % and noise more than 116 dB down, and the S/PDIF inputs accept up to 192 kHz. The dedicated MM phono stage uses precise RIAA equalisation, and the preamp board layout was optimised for this version. A current-feedback headphone amplifier with a high slew rate feeds a 6.3 mm jack on the front.
Pairing
Inputs cover three analogue RCA pairs, the MM phono pair, a direct power amp input, four S/PDIF sockets (two RCA, two Toslink), HDMI ARC for a television and Bluetooth 5.1 with aptX and aptX HD. Outputs are a preamp pair, one set of speaker terminals, the headphone jack and a 12 V trigger, with a matching trigger input. It can run as a full integrated, as a preamplifier only, or in Pre-Power mode that splits the two stages so an AV processor feeds the power section. There is no dedicated subwoofer output.
Alternatives
The Audiolab 7000A sits one step higher among the brand's integrated models, giving 70 W into 8 ohm and 110 W into 4 ohm with a 250 VA transformer.
