The 200iX is a New Zealand-built Perreaux integrated amplifier housing power and preamplifier stages, a DAC built on the ES9038PRO Sabre chip, an MM and MC phono section plus a Class A headphone output in a single case. It comes in several anodised colours, including black, white, blue, aqua, purple, pink, yellow and salmon.
Key specs that matter
Rated output is 200 W per channel into 8 ohm and 300 W into 4 ohm, with maximum output before clipping of 230 W and 360 W. Amplifier distortion is below 0.005% and typically 0.002% at 1 kHz at rated power. Response is flat within 0.15 dB from 20 Hz to 20 kHz and within 0.5 dB from 5 Hz to 60 kHz. Line inputs are offered on balanced XLR at 22 kOhm and unbalanced RCA at 12 kOhm, with an overload point of 8 Vrms. Volume spans minus 95.5 dB to plus 12 dB in 0.5 dB steps, and each input can be trimmed by 40 dB either way. The chassis measures 426 mm wide, 344 mm deep and 149 mm high and weighs 16 kg.
Engineering and use context
The digital section accepts two coax plus two Toslink S/PDIF sockets, one AES/EBU socket and USB Type B, plus Bluetooth audio. S/PDIF and AES inputs handle 32 kHz to 192 kHz, while USB adds 352.8 kHz, 384 kHz and DSD 64, 128 and 256. DAC output is 2.0 Vrms at full scale with 0.002% distortion across the audio band. Headphone distortion stays below 0.003% into low impedances and below 0.002% into high ones. The phono stage loads MM cartridges at 47 kOhm and MC at 100 ohm, with gain of 40 dB and 60 dB, distortion of 0.1% at 1 kHz on the low gain setting, RIAA accuracy within 0.5 dB and noise more than 85 dB down. The SXH2 headphone circuit handles headphones from 8 to 600 ohm and delivers 1.0 W into 32 ohm or 150 mW into 300 ohm. A 6.5 x 3.5 cm LCD shows menus and settings. Control comes from an infrared handset or a Bluetooth app for iOS or Android phones, and an RS-232 port links the amplifier to Control4, AMX and Crestron home systems.
Pairing
Given its current into low loads, the 200iX can drive low-impedance floorstanders without a separate power amplifier. A turntable, a computer over USB, a streamer through a coaxial or optical cable and a pair of headphones can all connect at once, which covers most systems for a 20 m2 room with one box.
Alternatives
The Perreaux Eloquence 150i is an earlier Perreaux integrated design offering RCA and XLR line connections and 150 W per channel into 8 ohm.
