The SOtM iSO-CAT7 is a passive inline LAN filter and isolator for network audio systems. SOtM developed it to improve on the performance of its earlier iSO-CAT6, and it handles 10/100/1000Base-T as well as 10GBase-T Ethernet links.

Key specs that matter

Signal isolation relies on an isolation transformer rated for 10GBase-T operation, and the RJ45 connection is a fully shielded modular jack. Inside the block, each of the four Ethernet signal lines is kept separate and shielded on its own to reduce interference between them. No external power supply is required. The unit is rated for operation from 0 to 40 °C and for storage from -10 to +50 °C, with 10 to 90 % humidity in both cases.

Engineering and use context

The iSO-CAT7 sits in the network cable run, with an RJ45 lead plugged into each end. The standard version costs USD 450. A Special Edition at USD 800 adds three 50 cm dCBL-CAT7u LAN cables with black, grey and dark grey shielding, each tuned differently by SOtM.

Pairing

It suits a streamer, network player or network DAC fed from a home router or switch, and its 10GBase-T rating means it will not limit a faster wired network.

Alternatives

Within the same SOtM range, the lower-priced iSO-CAT6 covers CAT6 links with a 1500 Vrms isolation rating.
