The SOtM iSO-CAT6 is a compact LAN signal isolator and filter that goes between a router and a streaming device in a network audio setup. It works without any external power supply.

Key specs that matter

The unit supports CAT6 Ethernet and uses a high-quality isolation transformer rated at 1500 Vrms, 0.5 mA for 60 seconds. Both network ports are fully shielded modular jacks, labelled Router and Device, and the connections must follow those labels.

Engineering and use context

SOtM puts the connection markings on top of the small frosted enclosure. The standard version sells for USD 350 and ships with a short network cable intended for the device side, where SOtM advises placing the isolator. The Special Edition at USD 700 comes with three LAN cables that share one conductor but use different connectors, told apart by black, grey and dark grey shielding mesh.

Pairing

SOtM recommends running it with its own dCBL-CAT6 or dCBL-CAT7 LAN cables, which makes sense for anyone already building a wired chain from the SOtM catalogue.

Alternatives

SOtM's later iSO-CAT7 extends support to 10GBase-T and shields each of the four signal lines separately.
