NAD added the C 359S stereo integrated amplifier to its Classic Series, introduced in October 2026 alongside the C 569 CD player. It returns to a Class AB output stage and combines it with BluOS streaming, HDMI eARC and a phono input, while keeping physical buttons and rotary knobs in place of a large display or menu system. Launch prices were USD 1,299, CAD 1,599, EUR 1,199 and GBP 1,099.

Key specs that matter

Continuous output is 70 W per channel into 8 ohms and 120 W into 4 ohms, both channels driven from 20 Hz to 80 kHz. Clipping power exceeds 75 W into 8 ohms and 130 W into 4 ohms, and IHF dynamic power reaches 76 W, 144 W and 210 W into 8, 4 and 2 ohms. Peak output current is above 20 A into 1 ohm for 1 ms. Damping factor is better than 210 up to 1 kHz and better than 120 at 10 kHz. From the line input, signal-to-noise exceeds 90 dB A-weighted at 1 W, and 510 mV drives the amplifier to its full rating. The phono input is loaded with 46 kohm and 100 pF and needs 3.95 mV, the optical input accepts 44.1 to 192 kHz, and the headphone output has a 5 ohm source impedance. The case is 435 x 100 x 400 mm and weighs 8.9 kg.

Engineering and use context

Instead of a large linear transformer, the Class AB stage runs from a high-current, low-noise switch-mode power supply derived from the Class D work behind NAD's Masters Series. A multilayer layout separates power conversion, signal processing and amplification, with care given to grounding and signal routing, so that the analogue, digital and network sections interact less. NAD states that its RIAA curve includes a pre-emphasis rolled off at 50 kHz by a second-order filter, the type used on Neumann cutting lathes. BluOS plays FLAC, MQA, WAV, AIFF and ALAC files up to 24 bit and 192 kHz over Gigabit Ethernet or Wi-Fi 5, supports multiroom groups with other BluOS players and connects to Roon as well as Control4, Crestron and other control systems, with Alexa and Siri voice support. Bluetooth 5.0 with aptX HD works in receive mode only. Presets on the supplied IR remote recall internet radio stations, and standby consumption is 0.5 W.

Pairing

HDMI eARC brings TV sound straight into the amplifier, and a turntable plugs into the phono socket without an outboard preamp. The subwoofer output with optional high-pass filtering lets a powered sub relieve the main speakers of deep bass in a 2.1 system, which also eases the load on the amplifier. The current reserve into low impedances makes 4 ohm floorstanders a workable match, and a dedicated socket serves headphones.

Alternatives

The NAD C 399 is a more powerful Classic Series integrated amplifier that uses HybridDigital nCore Class D amplification in place of Class AB.
