Floorstanding loudspeakers — Estelon Extreme Mk II

The Extreme Mk II is the second version of the Extreme from Estelon, a company founded by designer Alfred Vassilkov in Tallinn, Estonia. Announced in January 2022, it brought a new ceramic midrange, a new diamond tweeter, an upgraded crossover and a motion system rebuilt from scratch out of precision-milled and 3D-printed parts with wireless control.

Key specs that matter

This four-way passive bass reflex floorstander carries five custom Accuton CELL drivers. A pair of 250 mm aluminium sandwich woofers and a 250 mm mid-woofer of the same construction work below a 168 mm ceramic midrange and a 25 mm diamond dome tweeter. The response extends from 23 Hz to 60 kHz and stays linear to 33 kHz. Sensitivity is 91 dB for 2.83 V, nominal impedance is 3 ohm and the lowest point is 2.0 ohm at 95 Hz. The power rating is 500 W, while 20 W is the smallest amplifier Estelon accepts. Each speaker stands 1770 to 2070 mm tall, is 690 mm wide and 820 mm deep and weighs 250 kg, and the maker gives a room range of 50 to 200 m2.

Engineering and use context

Estelon makes the enclosure of a marble-based composite formed into a curved shape with no flat or parallel walls, and each driver has a separate internal chamber lined with damping material. A linear actuator raises or lowers the upper module by as much as 300 mm, with repeatable positions and safety protection, so the midrange and tweeter height can follow the listening seat and room. A separate motorised camshaft sets the diamond tweeter depth in five positions. The two woofers are placed close to the floor and loaded symmetrically, which Estelon calls Symmetric Driver Loading, and they vent through a damped reflex tunnel at the rear. Together with the curved baffle, a suede-covered foam ring limits cabinet diffraction. The crossover combines Mundorf inductors, Goertz flat foil coils, SESGO capacitors and resistors of the thick-foil and Supreme types, hand-soldered and mounted in isolated compartments with a star-grounded flat foil direct coupling and Kubala-Sosna internal wiring. High-gloss finishes include Midnight Opera, Bronze Royale, Lunar Eclipse and Nordic Emerald, while each Limited Edition system, painted Dark Silver Liquid Gloss, is signed by Vassilkov.

Pairing

An impedance that falls to 2 ohm in the bass makes the Extreme Mk II a job for solid-state amplification that delivers large currents and stays stable into very low loads, either a stereo unit or two mono power amplifiers.

Alternatives

Estelon's Forza Ultra is a smaller sealed four-way floorstander that takes its terminal design from the Extreme Mk II.
