Nordost is a Massachusetts company making audio cables, power distribution and resonance control products, founded in 1991 by Joe Reynolds, Vincent Garino and Jeffrey Garino and based in Holliston. It is known for flat speaker cables and for conductors insulated with FEP, and its products are sold in more than 70 countries, which makes it one of the larger specialist cable firms working from the United States.
Range & what it's known for
The cable catalog is organised in four families. Leif is the most affordable system, Norse covers the middle with lines such as Heimdall, Reference is led by Valhalla, and Supreme Reference is the Odin level at the top. Beyond cables the company makes QRT power products such as QSource and QPoint and the Sort System devices for vibration control. Its signature construction wraps each conductor in a single or twisted FEP mono-filament so the conductor sits largely in air, and it builds flat speaker cables, cut to mechanically tuned lengths and terminated with its own Holo Plug connectors. In 2014 Nordost introduced what it called the first American-made HDMI cable.
Who owns it and where it's made
Nordost Corporation is a private American company headed by its founders. Design, engineering and assembly are carried out in the USA at its Massachusetts base, which the company presents as the way it keeps quality control in house across cables, power and accessories.
The lineup in this catalog
Cables and accessories across several categories, from roughly USD 100 for the cheapest cables to well over USD 20,000 for Odin cable sets.
Who it's for
Cabling a whole system from one maker is the Nordost idea, with interconnects, speaker cables, digital links, power cords and support devices sharing the same construction. Leif matches a modest budget, Norse suits a growing system, and Valhalla and Odin are aimed at reference installations. Buyers who also want to treat mains power and equipment vibration can add QRT and Sort products later.
