Exposure Electronics is an amplifier and CD player manufacturer from England, set up in 1974 in Hove, West Sussex, as a hi-fi shop by engineer John Farlowe. Four debut Exposure products appeared in 1977, starting with the Exposure I loudspeaker, and after more than fifty years the company is still a West Sussex manufacturer known for plain-faced integrated amplifiers built around large toroidal transformers.
Range & what it's known for
Current production centres on the 3510 series, with the 3510 integrated amplifier at about GBP 3,100 and a 3510 stereo power amplifier at about GBP 2,400, plus a 3510 DAC. The half-width XM series covers the XM5 integrated, the XM CD player and the XM3 phono stage, and the 5510 integrated launched in 2025 tops the range. Exposure describes a trickle-up approach, where ideas proven in the affordable lines are carried into the dearer ranges. Earlier generations include the 2010 and 3010 families. The original brief of real-world hi-fi at real-world prices still frames its stated goals, among them careful build, simple styling, ease of use, sensible pricing and long service life.
Who owns it and where it's made
Farlowe, a University of Sussex electronics graduate who had worked for HiWatt guitar amplifiers and on Midas mixing desks used for Pink Floyd concert sound, led the company until he retired in 2000. Design then passed to Tony Brady, chief designer for more than twenty years. Exposure is an independent British company, now based in Lancing, West Sussex, where its products are designed and built.
