Website:https://ampsandsound.com/

Ampsandsound is a small American tube-electronics company founded and run by Justin Weber in Southern California. It builds vacuum-tube headphone amplifiers, stereo and monoblock power amplifiers, preamplifiers, high-efficiency loudspeakers and a handful of accessories, hand-assembling every unit in the United States. The catalogue is unusually large for a one-designer company, with more than twenty amplifier models sold directly from the brand's own site.

Range & what it's known for

Headphone amplifiers form the core of the range, and most of them double as speaker amplifiers, with output taps for both headphones and loudspeakers. The line runs from the Mini Jinx at USD 2,900 and the Mogwai SE at USD 4,500 through the Kenzie Reimagined and LeeLoo Reimagined at USD 6,000 and the Bigger Ben at USD 6,400 to the Nautilus at USD 12,000 and the Red October XL and Nautilus XL at USD 18,000. Two-channel power amplifiers include the Stereo 17 at USD 6,000, the Casablanca, Bryce and Zion monoblocks and the Arch Monos at USD 38,000. Preamplifiers are the Badlands, Yosemite and Yellowstone, and the speakers are the Seneca, Sasquatch, Hudson and Kraken, all built around 15-inch or 18-inch woofers. The circuits are single-ended or push-pull designs without integrated circuits, with point-to-point wiring and transformers that the company specifies so that the amplifiers can be serviced for decades.

Who owns it and where it's made

Ampsandsound is privately owned by its founder Justin Weber, who designs every product. The workshop is in California and each amplifier is assembled by hand there, with chassis, transformers and other parts bought from domestic suppliers wherever possible. No outside group is involved and nothing is assembled offshore.

The lineup in this catalog

Tube amplifiers, headphone amplifiers and transformers (3). The listed items include the Kenzie Reimagined headphone amplifier and the Badlands preamplifier, with prices from about USD 6,000 for the Kenzie to USD 12,000 and above for the Badlands.

Who it's for

Ampsandsound is for headphone listeners who want a tube amplifier that will also drive a pair of efficient speakers, and for owners of high-sensitivity loudspeakers who want low-power tube amplification from the same designer. Most first purchases are a Mini Jinx or Mogwai SE, the Kenzie and Nautilus are the upgrades, and a Badlands preamplifier with Casablanca or Zion monoblocks completes a full speaker system without leaving the brand.
